Blog 39: The Night To Be Much Observed

When Abram asked YHWH how he could know that he would inherit the land presently occupied by ten idol-worshiping people groups, the covenant YHWH made with Abram consisted of a two-part promise: the land and deliverance from oppression. YHWH told Abram, “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs and will serve them, and they will afflict them for 400 years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions” (Gen. 15:13–14). Abram died at a good old age, but his descendants in the fourth generation returned to the land. YHWH’s watchful eye and powerful arm brought His oath to reality, making a name for Himself so that Israel and the nations knew Him.

After YHWH had plagued Egypt with the death of their firstborn, He brought Israel out of bondage at the precise time He had made the covenant with Abram. After eating the Passover, the next night, Israel fled Egypt. Through Moses, YHWH instructed Israel about the event’s importance.

16 On the first day there shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day there shall be a holy convocation for you. 17 So you shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this same day I will have brought your armies out of the land of Egypt. Therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as an everlasting ordinance. (Exo. 12: 16-17)

Since YHWH had brought to pass the deliverance He had promised to Abram, He commanded Israel to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread by observing the moment of their exodus, the Night-to-be-Much-Observed, every year. The night of solemn observance commemorates YHWH’s mighty name. The Most High God alone controls the time cycles of humanity, even within our free will.

41 And it came to pass at the end of the 430 years—on that very same day—it came to pass that all the armies of YHWH went out from the land of Egypt. 42 It is a night of solemn observance to YHWH for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is that night of YHWH, a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations. (Exo. 12:16-17, 41–42, NKJV)

The “night of YHWH” belongs to each generation as their own exodus.

“Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand YHWH brought you out of this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. And you shall tell your son in that day, saying ‘This is done because of what YHWH did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ It shall be as a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that YHWH’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand YHWH has brought you out of Egypt. You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.” (Exo. 13:3, 8–10)

To govern their household relationships by ensuring rest to all every seventh day, YHWH commanded Israel to remember the night they left Egypt each Sabbath.

15 And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and YHWH your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore YHWH your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. (Deu. 5:15)

Even more intensely, Israel was to remember the night YHWH brought them out every day they drew breath. Never forgetting His mighty hand and outstretched arm, YHWH’s awesome name daily generated confidence and enduring hope in those of the household of God.

3 You shall eat no leavened bread with it; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it, that is, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste), that you may remember the day in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life. (Deu. 16:2-3)

This is why Yeshua, as a Son, told His disciples on the night of the Passover of His unsurpassed love for them by His death. He proclaimed the name of YHWH.

“I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. (Jhn. 17:6)

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,  2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.  3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (Jhn. 17:1-3)

Takeaway:
YHWH commanded Israelites to solemnly memorialize the night they left Egypt yearly, weekly, and daily. Its importance comes from YHWH making a name for Himself by liberating Israel by the blood of the lamb and the death of Egypt’s firstborn, saving each Israelite family alive on Passover Abib 14. He overpowered the gods of Egypt, defeating oppression and death to bring His nation out of slavery the night after Passover, at the beginning of Abib 15, the first day of Unleavened Bread. On this night, we honor Yeshua’s burial at the beginning of the high Sabbath holyday, His willingness to die for us so that we may be brought out of exile’s bondage back to God’s Presence and knowing Him.

Fun Factors:
“This same day” of Exodus 12:41 in Hebrew has a numeric value of 280, 8 × 5 × 7, or 40 × 7.

The 10th octagonal number is 280. And 280 is the sum of seven consecutive squares, 32 + 42 + 52 + 62 + 72 + 82 + 92.

“It is a night of solemn observance” from Exodus 12:42 has a letter sum of 728, 8 × 7 × 13, or 104 × 7. It also is the sum of seven consecutive squares, 728 = 72 + 82 + 92 + 102 + 112 + 122 + 132.

The common factors of these two phrases are 7 and 8 (in bold), which, when added, equal 15, the number associated with Israel’s (and humanity’s) restoration.

The verse that commands us to observe this night of Abib 15, Exodus 12:42, has a letter sum of 3733, the 521st prime number and 256th Pythagorean prime, creating the sum of two squares, 572 + 222 (57 is 3 × 19 and there are 22 letters to the Hebrew alphabet).
